Cahaya Chinese Restaurant

Requesting coffee with milk tends to confuse many people that I've encountered throughout Asia.  Here is a restaurant's version.  Hot milk in the coffee cup, expresso in a small pitcher, along with liquid sugar.

Dim Sum is one of my favorite meals in Cirebon.  Here is chicken feet - which really doesn't have meat- they just eat if for the skin. Can't say that I'm willing to try.

Green Lush Dessert

Matcha is powered green tea and then added to ice cream (a little bit healthier!) The Pink bubbles are chewy tapioca balls and they are added with the red beans.  This then is put all over shaved ice.

Medi's for dinner

I had the pleasure of spending the evening with Medi, her husband and two sons.  We attempted to make apple pie.  However the dough would not roll properly and the electric oven Medi bought had no temperature gauge!!!!!
However we had a great time.  Her husband, Harris steamed the fish in banana leaves and it was delicious!

George Town, Penang

George Town is the colorful, multicultural capital of the Malaysian island of Penang. Once an important Straits of Malacca trading hub, the city is known for its British colonial buildings, Chinese shophouses and various houses of worship.  I needed to leave the country of Indonesia since my visa expired, so Regina and I did a "visa run" weekend to Penang.
Many road are closed to cars on Sunday, so we wandered around Sunday morning before heading to the airport.

Saturday morning in George Town,  Penang  some of the streets are closed to cars.  Different foods, crafts and other venues are set up along the road.  I was fascinated - but didn't have the time.

Saturday morning dodgeball game.  One young man explained the rules which are very similar to ours.  Then he asked me to join - thankfully I didn't have on my sneakers!

Pinang Peranakan Mansion

The mansion was lavishly furbished with elegant ceramic floor tiles from England, beautiful iron casted art work from Scotland for the balconies and railings and elegant carved-wood panels and screen for the doors and walls from China.

Not sure if this was a photo shoot/advertisement or actual engagement picture
Hai Kee Chan, also known as Chung Keng Kwee Mansion, and presently housing the Pinang Peranakan Mansion, is one of the most ornate private homes in George Town.  Built by one of the most illustrious personality in 19th century Malaya, the house has a long and colorful history. After decades of collecting dust, the mansion was bought by a property developer. He restored it and turned it into a museum to showcase his collection of Peranakan antiques.

Penang Peranakan Mansion

The Penang Peranakan Mansion was once the residence and office of Kapitan Cina Chung Keng Kwee. Also known as the Hai Kee Chan (Sea of Remembrance Store), the mansion’s previous owner was not a Baba, but he was a merchant, secret society leader and all-round community pillar.
