Soju is served as a traditional drink accompanying spicy Korean meals and used to enhance the meal's flavor. It reminds me of gin - but you are suppose to down it in one shot.
These small bowls are not to be confused for appetizers, these are what the Koreans call as Banchan or side dishes. Kimchi (salted and fermented vegetables). Kongnamul Munchim (seasoned soybean sprouts) Algamja-jorim (braised baby potatoes) were three of my favorites.
