Wat Damnak Siep Reap and Centre for Khmer Studies

 Wat Damnak was a royal palace during the reign of King Sisowath, which explains the name, as “dam nak” is Khmer for palace. Today it is a functioning pagoda, and home to a school, two charities and a sewing school for young women. The Center for Khmer studies is an American Overseas Research Center that receives partial support from the US> Government. Its programs and administrative costs are largely privately funded.

Renovated from the former French former governor's mansion, Regina and I stopped here for lunch after five hours at the National Museum. We dined al fresco- I had the fish amok in banana leaf, with the rice in the banana leaf cone,  while Regina enjoyed the smoked salmon bruschetta.

I didn't know Kit-Kat was into making ice cream.  This is green tea ice cream with a center of a  kit kat bar.

Siem Reap

Regina and I were more than happy to leave Phnom Penh so we took a six hour bus ride to Siem Reap home of the Angkor Wat - the largest religious monument in the world.  While we haven't gone there yet as we just arrived we wandered around Siem Reap and treated ourselves to an hour foot massage for $6.00 - well worth it.

We wandered around the night market which is filled with everything imaginable, including these chickens.
